Sterling Silver Toggle Neckless, Sterling Silver pendant with 18K Gold front, with Ancient Judaea Coin from 1 Century BC. The Pedant has an 18K Gold bezel as well as three 18K Gold accent dots on sides. Pendant diameter around 30mm. Chain diameter 4mm.

Description: This specific coin is also known as the "Shekel of Tyre". These coins were minted in Tyre, Lebanon and are dated from 1st Century BC. The front of the coin shows Melkarth, the local Lebanese hero, who was frequently compared to Heracles in Greek Mythology. The Eagle, on the reverse of the coin, was inherited from the Seleucid coinage of Tyre issued just prior to the city's independence.

History: The shekels of Tyre have achieved a degree of notoriety through their identification as the most likely coinage with which Judas was paid his "30 pieces of silver" for the betrayal of the Christ. They were also considered the highest content of Silver in the ancient world.
